Soon, radio rickshaws on Chandigarh roads

Times of India, 28th May 2011

CHANDIGARH: Residents may soon witnessFazilka-pattern eco cabs (modified rickshaws) on the city roads. UT on Friday informed the Punjab and Haryana high court that it had contacted the NGO that had invented the rickshaws and would launch the concept as a pilot project.

In Fazilka district of Punjab, the cycle rickshaws are available a phone call away. The information was provided by the UT senior standing counsel Sanjay Kaushal before a special bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ajay Tewari during the resumed hearing of the matter. Advocate Kaushal said that they had contacted the Graduates Welfare Association Fazilka (GWAF) secretary Navdeep Asija for making arrangements to introduce the eco cabs in the city.

UT administration was told to launch the eco cabs only after considering their feasibility on the roads. On March 25, Justice Surya Kant had asked UT and Punjab government to suggest ways for introducing the eco cabs in Chandigarh and Punjab.
